Spotted doing 65mph on I-40 just outside of mMemphis Right side suspension shackles completely busted off on rear axle. Was held in place with a worn out strap. It broke about half a mile later and sent it off into the shoulder.

I've seen the aftermath of a leaf pin failure (and subsequent crab of axle diagonally), but outright shackles-be-gone, that's a new one on me.

I meant the hanger, but yeah. It was broken clean off, bolts sheared and freed from the frame. Scary looking failure caused by corrosion and I imagine some brutal abuse.

The closest I've seen to that was a Land Rover that was used as a snowplow. Broke the U-bolts, but not while driving. It then had the axle cribbed down below the frame with wood blocks to move around.
Shockingly, this was before that frame got stripped, scrapped, and replaced for being a rusty heap of death.

I saw a dump truck on the freeway the other morning that had two lugnuts holding the front wheel on, out of a possible 8 or 10.
Well, "possible" isn't really correct. The rest of the lugs were broken off.
I called the company listed on the side of the truck and told them about it; not sure if anything came of it though. I figure that they probably knew about it and couldn't be bothered to fix it.
It so scary to see this negligent shit.
